Daughters of Sarah
Prov 31:11 “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.” KJV
Verse 11 of Proverbs 31 begins a long list of qualities that deem this woman’s value… far above rubies. Most recently, I found it interesting that immediately after her value or worth is mentioned, the very first characteristic listed is that her husband’s heart does trust safely in her. After reading over this verse for eleven yearsof marriage, I finally wanted to know what it meant and how to do it. Don’t even know if I asked God to show me, but He has begun to show me, and that with purpose.
I know some of the hardest, slickest, smartest, meanest, most athletic, artistic, obnoxious…etc. guys on the planet. You probably know a nice mix of different kinds of guys yourself. Having had the privilege of being close to them (some from their childhood) has taught me some things. They are… when they aren’t trying to compete, excel, provoke, win, destroy, conquer…etc, really sweet, and vulnerable, and needy. They probably know this about themselves, but living in a culture that labels them weak, a punk, a sissy, or gay, they aren’t willing to show it. But they need to. I believe they instinctively know they need to. Now we women, unlearned as we are, in the same culture where equality, liberty, and submission have been and continues to be greatly distorted, we hook up with these men. And if, for a long enough moment, the poor fellow thinks he can drop his guard and be vulnerable with us…if he decides that his heart can trust safely in you, what do you do with it? What have you done with it? According to God’s Word, a wife is supposed to be her husband’s safe place. Her husband desperately wants her to be, and if she is not, few men take it in stride. But he is made to need this quality in his wife, so it behooves us to learn to have it, and to save our daughters from unnecessary trial and error by teaching them now.
There are many facets to being a wife that will keep her husband’s heart safe. This is just one. I’m still learning, but what I know so far, I want to share with anyone who wants to know.
Thank you for reading.
