I’m back!…no promises…

…where have I been?  I almost forgot how to post a blog.  But really, I did forget. This is my “dream” guest bedroom…(where I shall hide so no one can find me ;) ). JK…my munchinks always find me.  I’m a munchkin magnet.

nooks and what-not

from bhg.com

I love those little seating arrangements for just a couple of folks.  I also really am into brass…go figure….I never struck me as a brass girl.

The nail head trim on those tasty leather chairs ain’t bad either.

uhm….yeah

My last post was in 2009.  Wow.  So my husband started his church, it’s been so fun! a little stressful, time consuming, but worth every bit.  I took a whole 8 week class on child evangelism, which was awesome….God is awesome.

Let’s see, oh!  I started reupholstering a couch.  Well technically I started de-upholstering a couch (with a screw driver a hammer and some needle nose pliers).  Get the right tools for a job folks!  Otherwise its H E double hockey sticks on your hands.  Anywho i was going strong at first, got completely intimidated, quit for a while, and now i’ve started back on it.  Wait a mosquito, I have to kill it.

lost it.   So yeah, uh…oh, i would post pics of the before but they all got deleted :( .  So i’ll have to do an ‘in progress one’.  I hope I’ll be back soon but I gotta go keep my husband company while he types out his sermon, and build up these calluses trying to teach myself to play the guitar.  I got too much goin’ on…

well, a little bit

I do not like ceiling fans. I don’t know why I keep saying stuff like that without having lived long enough to validate such statements.  Case in point…

from Rosenberry Rooms

I don’t like ceiling fan lights either, but anyway….

This thing is not a ceiling fan, it’s a beautiful flower.  It’s fun and whimsical, doesn’t have some cartoon icon on it, or some blasted name brand………..Just an abstracted bloom to keep the room breezy.

from CONTEMPORIST…

…my new favorite website (for a day).

Yes….It’s *wood, and it looks good!  @ least to me.  This fireplace facade gives me the same feeling that a really clean, neat stacked stone does.  Calm, refined rustic, creative (is that a feeling?).

This Utah house got a redo inside and out and it’s quite a beauty. Click on the pic for more and don’t miss the before pics, who doesn’t get a kick out of B&A’s?

Almost everything I like these days has white walls.  But I will not paint!  As therapeutic as painting is, I wouldn’t be able to keep my family out of the house long enough to let it dry.

Anywho, more pictures I say!  More pictures………..

Can you say….aaahhh….

I really got a kick out of reading peoples comments on this place.  It was/is on the market for like $600,000+, so lots of folks put their two cents in on that matter.

The photographer did a great job on these pics.  Did you see the water running in the shower?  All the rich wood keeps making me think of chocolate.  I’m crazy right?  But it looks so good I can almost taste it (I could probably stand a little psycho analysis……yeah).

I’d live here… with my old Chrysler Sebring parked right there in the g-rage (just daydreaming…..ok……I’m good)

*According to the National Fire Protection Association–the agency that writes fire-safety codes–there must be at least 6 in. between the sides and top of the firebox opening and any wood that projects up to 1 1/2 in. from the face of the fireplace. Any wood that projects more than 1 1/2 in. (such as the mantel shelf) must be at least 12 in. from the opening.

Note: Every town has the power to modify the national building and fire-safety codes; be sure to contact the local building department for specific codes requirements in your area. (thisoldhouse.com)

thinking green

Does anybody think that this is as cute as I do?  Come on people.  However late we are at joining the movement to save the planet, more and more people are making decisions, small and great, to live greener lives.  So someone, and I’m sure others have as well, figured out a purpose for scrap wood.

from diyideas.com

Now someone please tell my husband that the small pile of wood scraps in the garage is not trash, but in fact, simple brillance waiting to happen.

“g” is for green

green laundryO.K. so I like crisp, clean, sort of cute, and green.  However far I am away from re-doing my kitchen (low-budget of course),  or choosing a final design for that matter, I am, for all intensive purposes, liking this latest idea of mine that I’m seeing from my very eighties oak and white kitchen through my  imaginary full glass, frosted door (with the word “Laundry” fancily frosted about two thirds the way up) to the laundry room.

It’s sort of tiny in there @ a mere 5×8 feet but you won’t catch me complaining.  In my first home I did laundry in the garage…..and there were sometimes creatures in there!

Oh yeah, those trapazoids at the top are white wicker baskets inside not-yet built cubbies over the cabinets.  I got lazy with the details :( .  And “clean” could easily be “smile”  or “greatfull” or something quirky I find some where for $5 tops.  And….the KAPOW!!! green would likely get toned down a tad for real life.  I mean, you know.

from House Beautiful, October 2006

Gosh.  I have not yet met  drapes and an upholstered headboard in the same fabric that I could like.  Mix it up!  The fabric is energetic and fun and fresh but I just don’t like to see the same the print in the same color twice.  Now that I’ve said that, I’m gonna come across some room that does the same doggone thing and I’m gonna like it……  Like purple!  I said I wouldn’t use it in my house but I’ve been sort of liking it a little more lately.  Go figure.

The stripped sofa, on the other hand is super!  Wish I could see more of it.  And who doesn’t love the yellow nightstand chest, and the pregnant white lamp, and the blue birdie nik nak?  Did I say I loved the fabric on that sofa?…..I love the fabric on that sofa.

chalkboard paint

writing on the walls?

Well here’s a room where writting on the wall won’t get a kid a trip to time-out…..as long as its with chalk, that is.  It looks tempting, but i’d have to think long and hard.  Will the line I draw(verbally :) ) between the kitchen walls and the rest of my walls be clear enough for my children to see?

vintage charm

Kitchen Bath Ideas, a BHG network site

Surely this kitchen belongs in a grand old home with a horse stable out back and so on….but no, it’s a beautifully executed new kitchen made to look vintage.  The open wall cabinet with the dark wood paneling behind it is a nice touch and takes it’s cues from the darker stained wood elements used around the room. The shallow wall cabinets adapted to fashion the “pantry” is a smart use of space and does a lot more to add to the charm of the kitchen than a pantry closet would.
